Dr. Aruna Narlikar


Dr. Aruna Narlikar has been working in the fields of literature, art, and multi-media for the last forty years. Her commitment to art and culture derives from a strong conviction that through the power of the pen and the paintbrush, one can change the world and make it a better place. For her artwork, she experiments with different techniques (oil on canvas, ink on paper, and watercolor), and has had her works exhibited in India and many other countries. She also holds a Ph.D. in Indian writing in English and has a long-standing commitment to the study of Mahabharata.

Dr. Aruna Narlikar  Who or what inspired you to embark on your own journey in the world of arts? I was born into a family that prioritized art and culture, literature, and education.  I grew up surrounded by beautiful books in different languages. My father was a professor of physics, my mother an award-winning author and academic, and together  they  cultivated a perfect atmosphere that fostered creativity, originality, and learning. It was  first  through books that I saw the beauty of the works of the great masters like Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Monet, Picasso, and more  (it was a remarkable experience to see some of their works in the original forms at the Louvre in Paris and the Tate in London, many years later!) .                                                                          Ms. Sumita Kakkar and Mr. Rajesh Kakkar Who or what inspired you to embark on your own journey in the world of arts? Sumita:  As a child, my mother saw the potential in me and introduced me to an eminent artist, Nayantara Nathani. I learned all forms of painting from her for more than six years. Her work inspired me and made me more and more interested in becoming a student of art. Rajesh:  I have for long been an appreciator of arts. I lose no opportunity to observe and enjoy art, not only painted by great masters but other artists too. My trips to most cities, especially in Europe, include visits to museums and art galleries. An Interview with Ms. Gaurisha Singh

  Ms. Gaurisha Singh Who and what inspired you to embark on your own journey in the world of arts? My passion and desire to paint. The urge to pick brushes up and paint something aesthetically pleasing, representing different forms of art and culture is what inspires me to paint just each and every time. Have you studied arts or obtained formal training in it? Even though I'd love to, the answer to this would be unfortunately no. I never had the time to go for formal training, years over years I kept practicing on my own to achieve perfection. Describe your art style I love using oil and acrylic paints on canvas and making freehand objects or figures, mainly defined as modern art. The strokes with a blend of colors give a beautiful outlook to it. For how many years have you practiced your art, and have you had to overcome any hurdles on the way? I have been practicing for 3 years and I still am because I believe practice makes a man perfect.
