An Interview with Dr. Aparna Pradhan
Dr. Aparna Pradhan
Who or what inspired you to embark on
your own journey in the world of arts?
Art has always fascinated me since
childhood. My father
introduced me to the world of art. I was mesmerized by his paintings that
were done as a hobby. My endeavors also started as a hobby and later turned
into a passion about a decade back. The beauty that life offers inspired me to
translate my feeling on the canvas. I believe that creativity is an
expression of the soul that opens the doorway to a happy memory lane; a
treasure forever.
Have you studied arts or obtained
formal training in it?
I have no professional degree in
arts. I learned to sketch and painting initially from my father and then
continued on my own. Later I was privileged to get my passion nurtured under
the guidance of an art teacher Mr. Wilson D’Souza of Pyde Pyper Art Academy,
Goa
Describe your art style.
My paintings are an
artistic expression of my inner feelings pouring out positive energy with an
aim to lift spirits and connect the subject emotionally and compassionately
with the viewer. I work on positive aspects portraying joy and celebration. I love to do figurative work.
For how many years have you practiced
your art, and have you had to overcome any hurdles on the way?
I
have been in this field for the last ten years. Family support is one thing
that helped me flourish and achieve success. I feel blessed to have a family
that always encouraged and supported me especially my husband Mr. Amit Pradhan
who has been my backbone in all my ventures.
What memorable responses have you had
to your work?
I feel blessed and lucky that I
got of recognition from art lovers and media. The moments I cherish fondly is
the occasion the Former Governor of Goa,
His Excellency Mr. B.V. Wanchoo bought several of my paintings for Raj Bhavan
Goa and for his personal collection from a Group Exhibition that was held in
Goa. He wrote a personal note for me in my diary stating “ While I am not an
artist, I must say her paintings are of high quality and indeed very original
and fresh.”
What do you aim to achieve in future?
I
want to be widely recognized as a good artist. Recently I got recognized by
Asian Literary Society and received the Indian Women Achievers Award in the
category of Arts.
Is there any specific area you now
wish to explore?
I am fascinated by cubism style and
wish to do some works in this style. I
have been writing poems on my paintings and wish to compile a book on the same
in the future.
What would you advise youngsters
inclined towards the arts?
I believe passion and sincerity are
two keys to reach one’s goal. Just a
small piece of advice to the youngsters “be ambitious and put in your heart and soul into your work. Work hard with
full dedication and determination. Study
artworks of famous masters in the field.”
My motto from my early childhood days till date is “Sail in the ship of
ambition and anchor in the harbor of success”.
